The a tenores singing is very different from every other type of italian polyphonic style, especially in the low voice parts, and surprisingly similar to indigenous music from Oceania and Africa.
The tenores style is also characterized by naturalistic sedimentation and imitation: the affinity to the commands used by shepheerds to their herds, and imitation of animal sounds.

“I first discovered Sardinian music in 1988 during the italian portion of a european tour. Our milanese promoter made a cassette from his ethnomusicological collection which i listened to in the car enroute to a concert.
I was astonished by what i heard and have spent the intervening years looking for more recorded examples of this music”.
